Bop until you drop. Not the sophisticated dance scene found in
the European capitals or Ibiza - but fun anyway.
Large airconditioned discos or smaller bars with a dance floor
and club type atmosphere.
Here's a few to get you in the mood...
The Banana Disco
Located close to the entrance of Bangla Road, in the centre of
the main beach Rd, "Banana" has been a local favourite
for many years.
It's not the music (largely techno and pop) but
the mix of local Thais (often hotel workers after hours) expatriates
and tourists which creates the atmosphere. Downstairs outside the
disco is an outside bar-restaurant which is a great place to meet
and people-watch. Entrance fee buys one drink.
The Safari Pub and Disco
Another local favourite. No entrance fee. Located on the main road
south out of Patong heading towards the Meridien. Both a pub and
disco with lots of uplighting and a funky decor that follows a variation
on a "Jurassic Park" theme. Lots of cosy places to eat
and drink if you want a break from dancing. Open from early evening,
so you can have dinner here. Live music and a DJ provide the entertainment,
with special shows performed on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Colourful
locals show up as the night progresses. The location, a bit out
of town, makes it more of an adventure getting there and getting
home, but it is worth the visit.
Tiger Disco
More an entertainment centre than a disco with lots of bars. Recently
re-opened and elevated above Soi Bangla it has a clutch of bars
outside which give good views of the street life below. The Disco
itself is at the rear and an entrance fee of Bt.100 will get you
in and also your first drink.
The interior resembles a large cave and has an upper level which
looks down over the dance floor also has a decent laser show. Easy
to find just look out for the tiger skin clad girls on the street.
Location: Soi Bangla.
The Beach
Located a the bottom of the Paradise Hotel Tower, this old established
disco (previously the Tin Mine) was popular with young kids.
Smaller Bar/Discos
Tai Pan Bar/Disco
Late night venue bar with a dance floor. Good sounds, and bands
with guest musicians from time to time. You will find that most
Locals and tourist rate this as a number one night spot. The bar
is frequented by many Freelancing girls and also local girls out
for a night out. Location: Top of Soi Bangla next to VIP.
VIP Bar/Disco
Located at the top of Soi Bangla. Excellent spot for people
watching from the outside seating area. The staff are some of the
friendliest in town - always smiling. Spacious interior with resident
DJ and neon lit dance floor. Happy Hours until Midnight so the place
is always buzzing. |
